Theocratic Ministry School cancelled. Why?
by the girl next door inis it possible this aspect of the meeting was cancelled so that jws would not be categorized as a "school" where in many areas elders and ministerial servants would have to submit to a background check by secular authorities?

That is exactly what I was wondering. I can not imagine that would be an "official" Watchtower statement or admission. -

Every day its something new I was never taught. Never would have thought I would be so obsessed with learning new things either. -

If I've been testy lately, here's why.
by cappytan inmy parents are visiting for not-thanksgiving.
dad started bringing up spiritual stuff and i almost screwed up my fade.. it's so hard to have a genuine discussion about the issues in the organization when you have become an atheist.
it feels icky and disgusting to have to pretend and nod your head at such platitudes as "you just need to have faith"..."trust in jehovah"..."jehovah will correct it"..."remember ray franz?

The ExJw community appears to be losing its shit recently about illegal downloading of copyrighted information. Tread carefully. -

Mormons vs. Jehovah's Witnesses
by Downtowner inforgive me if this has been covered before but i haven't seen anything about it recently.. in exploring the two faiths, mormons vs. jehovah's witnesses, which were both founded in the 1800s with the mormons being slightly a slightly older religion it seems mormons is a more attractive religion than jehovah's witnesses.
do not get me wrong, i'm not looking at joining the mormon church.
but i still enjoy studying other faiths and different belief systems.

Well, this should be interesting. I'm in a lot of cult exit groups and interact regularly with former CoLDS members. Not sure how many might be in this group but I'm sure there will be plenty to discuss. To begin with, what is the point in comparing which cult is better? Both practice behavior, information, thinking and emotional control. Screw them both. -

Happy Thanksgiving!
by Oubliette inhappy thanksgiving everyone!
i know that we are an international group here and that thanksgiving is an american holiday (and not even all of us in the us celebrate it), but i thought it would be nice to have a thread dedicated to sharing the many things we have to be thankful for: .

I am thankful that I am no longer under cult mind control and undue influence. I am thankful for discovery of true friends and family who love unconditionally. I am thankful for a community of like minded people who freely give support. I am thankful for the internet and people like Simon and Anghard who use it to help us. I am thankful for the ability to use critical thinking and thankful for the opportunities it has brought to myself and family. I am thankful for a long standing ExJW community that has grown from just a few to several thousands. I am thankful for whatever means it is that is leading people to exit JWdom. Happy Thanksgiving Obliette!

For the Supporters of Those Who Love Jehovah
by lovesjehovah ini am jehovah's witness, despite some of the questionable teachings, crimes, and other outlandish behaviors of specific people affiliated with the religion.
i know that my relationship with jehovah is not influenced by any outside factors.
i do not condone any crime.

Jackson: "Gotta take either more of it or less of it. I can't quite figure out which one."
David Lindley : ""Well, I'll tell you what it does take. It takes a clear mind. That's what it takes."
Jackson:"You mean it takes a clear mind to take it, or a clear mind not to take it?"
David Lindley : "It takes a clear mind to make it."
